Speciaal voor de gelegenheid een gast optreden van het Rotterdamse toptalent, contrabassist Thomas Pol.
10-jarig jublileum ESTAFEST
Vier van de meest eigenzinnige improvisatoren die op dit moment in Nederland rondlopen vormen ESTAFEST. In 2019 vieren ze hun10-jarig jubileum en doen dit door elk concert een speciale gast uit te nodigen: Nederlandse talenten uit de stad waar ze spelen of soms een internationale gast. Zo geven de gasten elkaar het Estafette stokje door.
Gitarist Anton Goudsmit (Boy Edgar winnaar 2010), violist en cajonspeler Oene van Geel (Boy Edgar winnaar 2013), saxofonist Mete Erker en pianist Jeroen van Vliet (Boy Edgar winnaar 2014) spelen in kamermuziekbezetting. Met hun waanzinnige composities veroorzaken ze ontroering, verwarring en beweging bij iedereen die de band ooit zag en hoorde.
In 2009 nam het viertal een live opname op genaamd Estafest Live!, uitgebracht in 2012 waarna een uitgebreide succesvolle tournee volgde.
In 2013 dook de band de studio in voor Eno Supo, dat in 2014 uitkwam en de band meteen een Edisonnominatie opleverde.
Na een showcase op de internationale jazzbeurs Jazzahead, volgden de eerste buitenlandse concerten, o.a. op het London Jazz Festival. En het viertal werd ook opgemerkt door het prestigieuze label BMC records, uit Budapest.
Daar nam ESTAFEST hun derde plaat op, getiteld Bayachrimae die inmiddels wereldwijd is uitgebracht Op dit nieuwe album bewijzen ze wederom dat deze combinatie muziek oplevert waar de noodzaak vanaf spat!

Estafest consists of four of the most eccentric improvisers in the Dutch music scene. Three of them have won the prestigious jazz music award VPRO Boy Edgar Prize. All of them are constantly creating highly original music in diverse national and international projects. In Estafest it all collides: four pig headed players challenging each other in a mostly improvised musical dialogue..
Thomas Pol (28) is a Rotterdam-based bass player who is well known in the Dutch and international scene. His spontaneous, strong and grooving style is what defines him as a player. As a sideman he is the strong foundation an ensemble needs and as a leader he shows great potential with his debut album ‘In America’ out now.
Thomas was raised in a very musical family. At age four, he started playing violin and at age ten he started playing the upright bass. He began his studies at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where his talent and dedication were well received. In his 3rd, year he was approached by Hein van de Geyn (bassist/jazz coordinator/teacher) to follow an exchange program in New Orleans, home of jazz. During his time at Codarts and UNO, he shared the stage with an impressive amount of well-known musicians such as Ellis Marsalis, Benjamin Herman, Herlin Riley, John Engels, Stanton Moore, Ack van Rooyen, Randy Brecker, Steve Masakowski, Caro Emerald, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Harmen Fraanje, Gregory Porter, Johnny Vidacovich, Peter Beets, Jamison Ross, Wouter Hamel, Nicholas Payton, Peter Bernstein and countless others.
In the autumn of 2016 his debut album was released and early 2017 he signed to ‘Bubble Bath Records’ as one of the promising and upcoming artists.
Thomas is currently back home in the Netherlands working on his own project, teaching at Codarts Conservatory Rottedfam and got selected to perform ‘The Pack Project’ in collaboration with Stichting Jazz International Rotterdam.
